Come to Movie Club at the Moose Jaw Library Monday, January 22nd at 6 Come join us for Bootlegger, a 2021 Canadian drama from filmmaker and visual artist Caroline Monet. A fascinating look at conflicting ideologies within a remote Algonquin community in northern Quebec, the film follows a student returning home only to get involved in the push for a referendum on the sale of alcohol, a source of much despair and addiction, and monopolized under a prohibition by a single regional bootlegger. A rich little movie on Indigenous identity and the legacy of Canadian colonialism, it stars Devery Jacobs, Pascale Bussières, and Jacques Newashish. The film is presented in French and Anishinabemowen, with English subtitles.
Showtime is at 6:00 in the Library theatre, with a discussion afterwards at about 7:20 for anyone who wishes to stay and partake.
