MODUS O: PRISONER OF TEHRAN

  • Mae Wilson Theater 217 Main Street North Moose Jaw, SK, S6H 0W1 Canada (map)

Award-winning author Marina Nemat speaks her story from her best-selling book Prisoner of Tehran. Born in Iran in 1965, Marina was arrested after the Islamic Revolution when she was just sixteen years old. She spent more than two years in Evin, a political prison in Tehran, where she was tortured and came very close to execution. She emigrated to Canada in 1991 and has called it home ever since.

Marina’s 2007 memoir, Prisoner of Tehran, has been published in 29 countries, and has been an international bestseller. In 2007, she received the inaugural Human Dignity Award from the European Parliament and, in 2008, the prestigious Grinzane Prize in Italy. She was the recipient of the Morris Abram Human Rights Award from UN Watch in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2014.

The Motus O performance of Prisoner of Tehran is a spoken memoir within a landscape of movement and dance theatre followed by a Q & A with the audience.
