Please join us for some family friendly fun on Sunday, December 10 at 1:30 pm.
We had a pause on programming over the pandemic, and are now meeting at a new location right within Wakamow. The location is in "the lodge" right above the skating oval (near the canoe launches). There is an attached elevator if required.
The program is free of charge. Refreshments will be served after.
The program will begin at 1:30 with a brief slide show talk on the common birds that overwinter here. Then you will know your birds well for the annual Christmas count, which we will remind you of as well!
Then, it's time to get your hands dirty as you learn how to build a variety of bird treats to hang on your tree. We will also make suet, which will then go into moulds such as grapefruit halves...also to be hung on the trees. They can even be reused.
I will have recipes available for you to take home as well as baggies of bird cookies for your own trees. These cookies are made like most, minus the sugar but add the suet. I trained redpolls to hand feed with these cookies!
Once we have completed our variety of bird feeders, we will head out to the Wakamow feeders. You can bring the feeders you made to hang up in the area or bring them home for your own tree, but we will also hand feed the little sprites with pine nuts.
if you are cold, and need warming up, we will finish the busy afternoon by having coffee, hot chocolate and juice as well as snacks including my infamous peanut butter squares.
To get an idea of the interest, please mark if you are planning to attend as the space is not large. if you have any items you'd like to bring, feel free as well. *And please remember to DRESS WARMLY! Not recommended for children under the age of 5.
See you there if you want a yummy square!
